Having Trouble Getting Started with Salvo Lite

I'm trying to install Salvo Lite but when I get done, or almost done, the setup program says the "test programs are not installed". Do I have to install them? When I do, there are other files that don't seem to get installed. I am confused. I just want to run something and get an idea of how your RTOS works. I'm trying to follow the tutorial but I feel rather overwhelmed and lost. Can you help? What are the steps? What do I need to install? The Quickstart just refers to the manual. Is there a shorter way to get started even a little bit?

Thanks for being patient...

We're sorry that you're having a bit of difficulty getting started. Here are some tips and suggestions:

1) It sounds like you are using Salvo v2.2.0. Please uninstall it and download the latest version, v2.2.1. It no longer issues the confusing "test programs are not installed message." Most people won't need the test programs, so don't worry about them.

2) When you do a "Typical Install" (the default choice), you should have all the files you need to use Salvo Lite for the appropriate target (in this case, PICmicro MCUs).

3) There was a minor error (a missing link to the User Manual) in the v2.2.1 release posted on Jan. 13. The version on our website is up-to-date and has fixed this issue.

4) For the 16F877 and the MPLAB-ICD, to gain some confidence we suggest you open salvodemod4syshd4free.pjt in MPLAB, build it (F10), download the code to the MPLAB-ICD and run it. Once you can run this demo (described in Appendix C) you'll know that Salvo, PICC, MPLAB and MPLAB-ICD are all properly configured on your system.

5) If you run into trouble, see App Note AN-1, or post your questions here -- don't be shy!

6) After you get 4) above working, then try the tutorial. You can change the processor type (to 16F877) and the development mode (to MPLAB-ICD) without having to change anything else if you use the salvo utorial u1-tu6sysa projects.
