Problems with Target in Rowley CrossWorks v1.3

For issues specific to TI's MSP430 line of ultra-low-power microcontrollers, including compilers (e.g. Quadravox AQ430), IDEs (e.g. IAR Embedded Workbench) and development tools (e.g. TI MSP-FET430 Flash Emulation Tool).

Problems with Target in Rowley CrossWorks v1.3

Postby Claudiu » Thu Oct 19, 2006 5:54 am

I tried to select as Target MSP430 Flash Emulation Tool and I'm getting an error that says "Cannot connect to target. Check that the target is powered, the JTAG cable is connected and the JTAG fuse is not blown".
I've connected the Cubesat kit Eval board with an USB cable to the computer.
I think I'm making an mistake but I don't realise what I do wrong.
Can you help me please.

Hi Claudiu.

Nice to hear from you.

Usually this sort of problem occurs if:

1) Chip is not in socket correctly.
2) Dev Board is not powered -- check LEDs and/or use external +5V or 6-26V power supply.
3) PC's parallel port is not properly configured -- I think it needs to be ECP or EPP, not simple SPP.

Try pushing the Dev Board's Reset Switch first.

I would recommend that you remove the MSP430 daughterboard (the one with the 64-pin socket) from the Dev Board and try to get that to connect successfully first.

Also, check the Properties of the Parallel FET in CrossStudio -- make sure it's on the correct LPT port.

Finally, I just wrote an App Note AN-35 that covers various FETs .

Thank you Andrew,
the problem was because I've tried to use MSPCrossConnect from Rowley and they said to me that is working only with v1.4 of CrossWorks Studio and I'm using version 1.3.
But was my mistake now is ok.
Best regards!

I expect a help from you. I have some utility meters which is made by MSP430F11211 Micro Controller. I want data Upload & Download from my Meter by MSP430Gang Programmer. My Meter's circuit board shows 11 pins for connecting with jtag cable, jtag cable's have 14 pins so i can not make any connection with my meter. I try to find out the connectivity details between meter's circuit board and MSP430 Microcontroller. Like--
Meter's Circuit pin-out---MSP430F11211's Pin
1-----------------------------------------4
2-----------------------------------------14
3-----------------------------------------10
4-----------------------------------------2
5-----------------------------------------5
6-----------------------------------------7
7-----------------------------------------1
8-----------------------------------------17
9-----------------------------------------11
10---------------------------------------18
11---------------------------------------19
Please if you can help me to give a diagrame for connectivity the its very help to me. my email is k_rejaul@yahoo.com
Thanks
Reza

This is an MSP430 question, and has nothing to do with Salvo.

I'd suggest posting your question to the Yahoo! MSP430 group.
