USB Driver Crashes with Blue Screen of Death

We now have two separate machines (both Windows XP) on which the "Pumpkin CubeSat Kit USB Interface" regularly causes blue screens of death.

I know it is this driver because (1) I haven't seen a BSOD in several years, they only started when I installed these drivers, and (2) the BSODs only happen when I am actively typing into the Terminal Emulator window in CrossStudio, and that window is connected to COM4 which is the virtual comm port for my USB connection.

Can I download new drivers from ftdichip.com? Will they help?

Thanks,
Chris

Interesting.

We have never seen any instances of BSODs with the CSK USB interface ... but we don't use the CrossWorks terminal (we typically use HyperTerminal).

One thing you could try is to use FTDI's MProg utility to re-program the FT232xx USB-to-serial converter on, say, the Dev Board to FTDI's default PID and VID values. Then, with these defaults, you can use whatever drivers from FTDI that you like ...

However, I doubt this will make any difference, as the Pumpkin drivers -- with their unique combination of PID and VID -- are just the FTDI drivers, with the appropriate text strings and PID/VID -- no other changes are made.

The Pumpkin hardware can be converted back to its "Pumpkin" PID and VID using MProg as well ...

Let me know what you find out ...

The problem was in CrossWorks; now that I'm using HyperTerminal instead, I haven't seen a single crash.

Thanks for the advice!
