Should Cubesat offer a clock?

Postby bgat » Tue Nov 28, 2000 6:49 am

Absolutely, particularly if the clock can implement a wake-from-sleep mode. Such a capability lets you put the system to sleep in a very lower power consumption mode until it is needed.

I have seen a triply-redundant clock design based on Dallas Semiconductor one-wire realtime clocks. Inexpensive, and very compact. I can post details if interested.

The PIC16F877 can run a real-time clock via a second external crystal, and also wake up from sleep. So that's another possibility.
